The HOFNOD Youth Fishing Challenge, hosted by the Tightlines 4-H Fishing Club of Cape May County, is a free statewide event to promote fishing among youths and their families. It will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 12 pm – 4 pm at the Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area.

Registered youth participants ages 20 and under will be eligible to receive prizes for the fish they catch during the event. Youth must be present at the end of the event to be awarded prizes. Prizes will be given for the biggest fish, the smallest fish and the most fish caught. Participants 16 and over are required to have a freshwater fishing license.

This event is sponsored by NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Program (HOFNOD). The goal of this program is to redirect youth from the temptation of drugs, alcohol and tobacco by engaging in socially positive activities like fishing, learning the value of clean water, and supporting community service by doing clean-ups and tree plantings.
